ELEMENTARY AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

 

January-May 2017

ACS EXTRACURRICULAR

The following is a list of activities offered this semester for grades KG5-5th. Registration for activities will take place on January 11-13 from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. All activities will begin the week of January 16th and will end the week of May 22th. The After-School Program will follow the ACS Calvert school calendar. On American and Bolivian holidays there will be no activities offered; however, on professional development days and early dismissal days there will be activities at the regularly scheduled time. All payments must be made at the beginning of the school year and there will be no rescheduling of classes that students miss. If you register for an ACS SPONSORED ACTIVITY, you must pay the appropriate fee in the Business Office. All other extracurricular activity fees are paid directly to the instructor.  Your child is required to present an invoice confirming payment on the first day of the registered activity.

Name of Course: Girls Soccer – KG5-5th (Sub 11)

Cost:             $150 per semester

Description:    Come for fun or come to improve your soccer skills. We will practice soccer skills, learn the rules of soccer and challenge you to become the best soccer player you can be. ALL GIRLS WELCOME! Hope to see you all there! Please note that girls in grades 4 and 5 may be moved up to the Middle School time if they demonstrate the appropriate skill level (practice time is Mon. and Wed. 4:30-5:30).

Description:    Come out to learn cheers and dance routines.

 

Name of Course:  Gymnastics

Instructor:       Adalid Jonas and Dora Zacari

Levels & Time: Beginner (KG3-KG5): Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30-4:15pm

Intermediate (1st-5th): Mondays & Wednesdays 4:15-5:00pm

Location:         Gym-Gymnastics Area

Cost:               $150 per semester

Description:    Loose fitting clothes or shorts and t-shirts must be worn.

Name of Course:  Psychomotor Skills

Instructor:       Susana Paredes

Grades:           KG5-2

Times:            Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:15– 4:15pm

Location:        Gymnastics Area

Cost:              $150 per semester

Description:    Students will work on improving both fine and gross motor skills. They will also develop space awareness, balance and coordination.

Name of Course: Karate

Instructor:      James Huss

Grades:           2nd -7th Grades

Times:            Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:15 – 4:15pm

Location:        Karate Room

Cost:              $150 per semester

Description:    Karatedo is a effective self-defense art from Okinawa, Japan. The karate style taught at ACS is called Shorin-ryu, meaning "Shaolin style," as it is derived primarily from Chinese kung fu. Shorin-ryu is not a sport, and students will not compete in tournments; they will, however, learn to defend themselves in real-life situations, develop greater strength, speed, and coordination, and improve their overall physical fitness.

FINE ARTS

Name of Course: Art Lovers

Description:    Students will work on Arts and Crafts! Get ready to have fun!!!!

Name of Course: Drama

Instructor:      Claudia Carrasco

Grades:           4th- 8th

Times:            Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30 – 4:15pm

Cost:              $150 per semester

Description:    Students will learn a variety of acting techniques to develop oral communication, emotional and physical expression skills. Students will also learn about the production and design process. Student artists, actors, and designers will rehearse for a performance at the end of the semester.

Name of Course: Ballet

Instructor:      Fatima Lazarte

Grades:           KG5 – 1st

Times:            Tuesdays, 3:15 – 4:00pm

Location:        Auditorium

Cost:              $75 a semester

Description:   This class is oriented to children from 5 to 6 years old, in order to learn the first steps of ballet and develop skills such as flexibility, coordination, balance and strength.

Ms. Lazarte is a professional classical ballerina. She received training in Buenos Aires and has worked internationally, dancing on stages such as the Lincoln Center in New York.

Name of Course: Modern Dance (Beginners)

Instructor:       Oscar Álvarez

Grades:           KG4-2nd, Girls

Times:                         Mondays and Wednesday, 3:15 – 4:00pm

Location:         PE Room

Cost:               $150 per semester (included: 1 CD to practice the choreography and songs) Additional Bs. 150 for the costumes that will be used in the presentation of the next Talent Show if class is selected after auditions.

What to wear:             Comfortable sports clothes.

Description:    You have the great opportunity to exercise while learning new dance moves. Get ready for a fun time!!

Name of Course: Break Dance for Boys

Instructor:       Oscar Álvarez

Grades:           KG5-5th Boys

Times:                         Mondays and Wednesdays 4:15 – 5:00

Location:         PE Room

Cost:               $150 per semester (included: 1 CD to practice the choreography and songs) Additional Bs. 150 for the costumes that will be used in the presentation of the next Talent Show if class is selected after auditions.

What to wear:             Comfortable sports clothes.

Description:    You have the great opportunity to learn how to dance different rhythms in a fun and easy way; be part of a moved, synchronized and entertaining choreography, adopting good domain of stage. You can stimulate your creativity, agility and elasticity with good posture; you will be the admiration at the party, you will improve your self-esteem showing optimal attitude and overcoming shyness in dance. You will complete your learning while you exercise, with the exciting experiences of the great modern and contemporary dancers. Undertake this fascinating challenge!

Name of Course:  Guitar-Beginners

ACADEMICS

Name of Course: English in Action

Instructor:       Yalile Chalan

Grades:           KG3-1st grade students

Time:               Thursday: 3:15-4:00pm

Location:         Elementary PE Room

Cost:               $us 80 per semester

Description:    English in Action is a great way for students to learn new vocabulary through interactive games, songs, reading, coloring, cooking and acting. Embracing each English word through all five senses will not only develop your child’s gross and fine motor skills but also improve his or her English while having tons of fun.

Name of Course: Girl Scouts

Grades:           4th -5th grade students

Cost:               $us 100 (cost per semester)-covers required vest, journey books, and badges

Description: Girl scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
